How Long Does a Custom Needle-Felted Pet Portrait Take?
When you order a custom needle-felted pet portrait, you are not buying a mass-produced decoration. An artist studies your pet's familiar face, builds the form by hand, adds the details that make them recognizable, and prepares the finished keepsake for its journey to you.
Most customers want to know the timeline before they order, especially when the portrait is a birthday gift, memorial gift, or holiday surprise. This guide explains each stage clearly so you can plan with confidence.
Our custom pet portrait from photo is handmade from your reference image, with preview approval before the piece is finalized.
Typical Timeline at a Glance
A custom portrait usually moves through four stages:
- Photo review: We check whether your reference photo shows the details needed for a recognizable portrait.
- Handmade production: The wool is shaped, layered, and refined by hand.
- Preview and approval: Where a preview is offered, you can request one minor revision before finalizing.
- Packing and shipping: After completion, the portrait is carefully packed and handed to the carrier.
The exact timing depends on the portrait style, size, photo quality, current order volume, and shipping destination. We provide an estimated schedule for your order rather than promising an identical number of days for every piece.
How Long Does the Handmade Production Stage Take?
Needle felting is a slow, detail-focused process. The artist repeatedly shapes loose wool with a barbed needle, checks the silhouette, builds the face, and refines the texture and color. Small details such as ear position, markings, muzzle shape, and expression can make a major difference to how familiar the finished portrait feels.
A smaller portrait may move through the studio more quickly than a larger or more detailed piece, but handmade variation is part of the process. The goal is not to produce a photographic copy; it is to create a warm, tactile keepsake that captures the features your family remembers.
Why Your Photo Affects the Timeline
A clear reference photo helps us work accurately from the beginning. If the eyes, ears, coat markings, or face shape are hidden, we may need to contact you for another image before production can start.
Before ordering, review our pet portrait photo guide. A well-lit image with your pet facing the camera usually gives the artist the most useful information and helps avoid preventable delays.
What Happens During Preview and Approval?
For orders that include a design preview, we send an approval image when the draft is ready. One minor revision is included. Requests that change the original photo, pose, size, portrait style, or other core details may require an additional charge or may not be possible once production has progressed.
Please watch the email address used for your order. If we do not receive a response within 48 hours, we may continue with the current design so the order does not remain stalled.
How Long Does Shipping Add?
Shipping time begins after the handmade portrait is complete and packed. Carrier transit times can vary by destination, service level, weekends, weather, customs processing, and carrier delays. For current delivery information, review our shipping policy.
If tracking stops updating for an unusually long period, contact us so we can open an investigation with the carrier. A replacement or refund can be considered after that investigation is completed.
When Should I Order a Custom Pet Portrait?
Order as early as possible if you need the portrait for a specific date. Tell us about your intended date when contacting support, but remember that handmade production and carrier delivery are not guaranteed to follow the same schedule for every order.
If your timing is flexible, ordering early also gives you more room to select a better reference photo, review the preview, and enjoy the process without rushing.
A Keepsake Made for Your Pet's Story
The most meaningful part of a handmade portrait is often the detail that only your family notices: the slightly tilted head, the bright eyes, a favorite marking, or the expression that made them feel close. That is why each piece is made from your photo and reviewed as an individual artwork.
Upload your photo and create a keepsake designed to Keep Their Familiar Face Close.
